WHPA Homeschool Board Meeting

WHPA Description

WHPA board meetings are open to all current WHPA members in good standing.

Members are invited to attend quarterly Board Meetings regularly (January, April, July, and October) to see what goes on behind the scenes and stay informed – we have a great time at our board meetings and would love to have you join the fun!

2025 board meetings will be held:

  • Monday, January 27, beginning at 5:30 PM.

Ozaukee Washington Bird Coalition: Lion’s Den Gorge Field Trip

Riveredge Nature Center Description

Led by members of the Noel J. Cutright Bird Club, this field trip concentrates on the Lion’s Den Gorge Nature Preserve, a 73-acre public park located adjacent to Lake Michigan south of Port Washington. The preserve, to whose preservation the bird club was one of the first donors, offers a variety of habitats in a major migration corridor.

Cooking Club

Cedarburg Public Library Description

Join us at the library for the Cooking Club! Choose a cookbook that goes with the monthly theme and select a recipe that piques your interest, then prepare the dish to share with our wonderful community. Be prepared for an engaging conversation about your culinary creation and the opportunity to make new acquaintances. Everyone is invited to participate, and no prior registration is necessary.

Bring a copy of your recipe, serving utensil and a beverage. Plates, flatware and napkins will be provided. Everyone is welcome!

From 12:00-1:00pm. This month's theme: May means artichokes (technically flowers that have not yet bloomed!), asparagus, kale, spring peas, radishes, and spinach are all in season and berries of all kinds. Prepare a dish of your choice to share along with your recipe. Everyone is welcome.

Water Action Volunteer (WAV) Training

Riveredge Nature Center Description

Milwaukee Riverkeeper and Riveredge staff will join forces to conduct this one-day training on how to assess the water quality of a nearby stream or river. You’ll find out how to identify aquatic invertebrates and do five water quality tests. Monitors are asked to conduct tests monthly during the summer and submit their data to the statewide Water Action Volunteers website.

Ages 18+ | This program is free to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated!

Park and meet at the Riveredge West Parking Lot.

Drop-In Naturalist Session

Riveredge Nature Center Description

SOS! A Riveredge Naturalist has been cooped up in the Coop near Farm Pond and is looking for some curious folks to listen to all they’ve learned about the landscape around them. Explore seasonal nature objects (pelts, bones, stones, dried plants, seeds, or branches), check out an ID book for your hike, and bring your questions.

All ages are welcome! Children must be accompanied by and adult 18+.

This program is free to attend, but donations are greatly appreciated!

Chainsaw Startup and Maintenance: Women Only Class ($)

Riveredge Nature Center Description

Do you want to become more informed on chainsaw operation and maintenance? Join this women’s only class and study with chainsaw experts. This workshop will:

  • Introduce various saw models and sizes, helping find your best fit for the job ahead. We will see a wide variety of Stihl brand gas and electric saws.

  • Showcase accessories and personal protective equipment

  • Practice starting saws safely (without a toothed chain)

  • Review chainsaw anatomy and maintenance (cleaning, diagnostics, disassembly, common troubleshooting, seasonal maintenance, gas treatments, specialty bar oils, bar conditioning,

  • Reading chains and filing demonstration

Please bring a chainsaw if you have one. If you don’t have a saw to bring, we can provide one.

VCAF Workshop: 3D Wooden Fish

Veteran Creative Arts Festival:
Participate in our Veteran Creative Arts Festival! Any Veteran and their family members can celebrate their art! Attend any of our Art Workshops and submit your artwork from a workshop, or create artwork on your own and submit it to the Festival by May 30th!
Artwork will be on display (anonymously) at the library from June 2nd – June 30th. The public will be able to vote on artwork. Winners will be notified on July 1st, the Veteran Artist Award Ceremony will take place at the library on July 2nd, and winning pieces will go on display at the VCAF at Zablocki on July 7th.

3D Wooden Fish:
Join us for a creative and relaxing workshop with Rodrigo where veterans and their families can come together to paint wooden fish pieces. With a variety of fish shapes to choose from, this session offers a fun opportunity to express your creativity while bonding with loved ones. No prior experience needed-just bring your enthusiasm and enjoy a stress-free environment filled with color and connection. All materials will be provided!

Screen Free Week Free Kid’s Yoga for ages 5-10

Riveredge Nature Center Description

This event is a fun, exercise-based yoga class for children that includes poses, breathing, and creative activities. We’ll practice with a partner, do group poses and play fun yoga games. This session is designed for kids ages 5-10, practicing yoga independently, with a parent on-site (may we suggest a hike?). Weather permitting, we will hold this session outside.

For kids ages 5-10

This program is offered at no cost for Washington and Ozaukee County’s Screen Free Week.

Summer Theater Class Registration with First Stage ($)

First Stage Theater Academy Description

First Stage Theater Academy is the nation’s leading theater training program for young people. Students in grades K4-12 will develop skills in musical theater, scene study, Shakespeare, improvisation, and much more, while simultaneously building life skills, such as confidence, focus, and teamwork, learning from the area’s leading theater artists. One, two, three, and four-week sessions are available.

Math Morsels: Session 2

Enjoy beautiful discoveries from the history of mathematics and intriguing math problems with clear solutions. Interesting videos and perplexing problems will spark your curiosity. A few songs and math jokes will lighten up the heavier topics. Open to the mathematically curious ages 10-Adult. Session 2 will cover the fundamental counting principle and the Fibonacci sequence.

STEM Club for Grades 1-5: Wind-powered Maze

Teams of two are asked to design a challenging maze!

Construct a maze with an entrance, exit, and obstacles. Then use wind power to push a marble through the maze.

STEM Club is a program designed for children in first to fifth grade. In this monthly program, children are given the opportunity to explore the principles of science, technology, engineering, and math through fun and engaging experiments and lessons, led by library staff
